Adaptation diary - week three

Converting a two-bedroom apartment into a three-bedroom apartment, Dobrinja

The third week started with the noise and the drilling. Rough electrician work in the apartment with mostly concrete walls is presenting a real challenge for everyone. Considering that we always change the complete electrical installation, at the same time as placing new lighting fixtures and a new layout of all possible sockets and counters, two days were needed just for the work with the hilt. It was only on the third day that the machine fell silent, and the diligent hands of our electrician laid hundreds of meters of new cables.

In the meantime, we were making preparations for the ceramicists – the purchasing of the materials, the selection of the ceramic tiles and, of course, the organization of the delivery and the import. The golden rule when you are purchasing the ceramic materials is to always order 10% more than what the actual surface condition is. A lot of tiles are going to break, some of them you won't be able to use and, surely, you don’t want to end up in a situation to stay without the tiles , so you have to wait a few days or weeks, which happened to us once.

At the same time as purchasing the materials, our flatbed furniture company took all the necessary steps to make the kitchen, cabinets and TV set. Just as we do the rest of the work, they will be ready for the installation. Also, this week we ordered a flooring, because right after the painting comes the laying pf the floor, everything has to be on time, JIT (just in time) adaptation .

On the third day of the week, the electrician finished all his work, and the ceramicist came the day after. The first two days of a good ceramicist's work are the most important - thorough preparation (read leveling) of the walls and waterproofing of the base where the Turkish bath is made. When that part is done properly, gluing ceramics becomes a smaller part of the problem, and it doesn't take more than a few days to completely finish a medium-sized bathroom (up to 5m2) and a balcony (up to 5m2).

At the end of this week, we removed the note on the front door of the building  - there will be no more noise, now the fine, quiet works that the neighborhood and I love the most will follow.
